Messi out Barcelona's La Liga opener with injury

The Argentine missed Saturday's friendly against Napoli and Friday's game against Athletic may come too soon.


Lionel Messi will miss Barcelona's La Liga opener against Athletic Bilbao on Friday after head
couch Ernesto Valverde declared he would not take any risks with the star attacker.

The Argentine trained separately from his team-mates on Wednesday as he continues his recoverly
from a chief injury suffered in training last week.

Messi's Participation in the Cope America meant he wasn't cited to return to training until early August, but his pre-season preparations were quickly scuppered.





Should Messi miss the clash against Athletic, he will look towards an August 25 match against
Real Betis to potentially make his season debut.

Antoine Griezmann scored his first Goal for the Club, Lusi Suarez netted a brace and Ousmane 
Dembele was also on the scoresheet in a comfortable win.


Messi scored and incredible 51Goals in all competitions last season, helping Barcelona to a scored
consecutive La Liga title.
