   BENGALURU: The price of LPG cylinders has sky-rocketed across the state with a 14.2kg domestic cylinder costing a maximum of Rs 1,017 - the highest in the last four to five years. While the peice was recorded in Bengaluru stood at Rs 942. Compared to the LPG refill price of Rs 652 in April in the city, the cost has sky-rocketed by 40 per cent. A refilled cylinder currently costs Rs 941.

New Delhi, Nov 24: Come 1 January 2019, some debit or credit cards may not function. According to an old directive issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the cards with magnetic strip need to be replaced with the EMV chip, PIN-based ones by December31, 2018. The central bank had issued the directive on August 27, 2015, and given the banks more then three years to complete the transition. The RBI had started that ''with effect from September 1, 2015 all new cards issued- debit and credit, domestic and international-shall be EMV chip and PIN based cards''.   Users need not panic as they still have some time left to replace the old-technology cards from their existing lending if they haven't done it so far.    New Delhi: Legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen died at the age of 95 on December, 30. Accroding to Anandabazar Patrika, Sen died around 10:30 am at his home in Bhawanipore, Kolkata. He had been suffering from age-related aliments for a long time. West Bengal chief minister mamata Banerjee tweeted about his death. ''Saddened at the passing away of Mrinal Sen. A great loss to the film industry. My condolences to his family,'' her tweet read. Mrinal was born in Faridpur in Bangladesh on May 14, 1923. After completing high school in Bangladesh, Sen came to Kolkata. He studied phyaics at Scottish Church College. He got a Post-Graduate Degree from the University of Culcutta. The filmmaker is considered to be one of the greatest ambassadors of Indian parallel cinema at an international level. He is know for helming films like 'Bhuvan Shome', Mrigaya', 'Akaler Sandhane' and Calcutta 71'.

   All the people leaving the subsidy on LPG cylinders need to worry because the price of non-subsidized LPG in Delhi will increase by Rs 59 per cylinder from today. Indian oil corporation hasattributed the increase to international price and change i fluctuations in foreign exchange in LPG. The price of subsidized cooking gas cylinder has also increased from Rs 2.89 per cylinder to Rs 502.4 per cylinder. The actual effect on domestic LPG. customers subsidized is only Rs 2.89 per cylinder, which is mainly due to GST at the above mentioned above. Subsidy transfer to the bank account of the customer has become Rs 376.60 per cylinder on 1 October 2018. 320.49 per cylinder in September 2018 ''Thus, domestic subsidized LPG customers are safe against the increase in LPG prices''. Finance Ministar Arun Jaitley on Thursday announced cut in excise duty in prices of petrol and diesel. The excise duty on petrol and diesel to be reduced by Rs 1.50 and the oil marketing companies oil marketing companies oill absorb Re. 1 taking the total cut in fuel prices to Rs. 2.50, he said.   He appealed to the states to match the centre's effort by reducing value-added tax or VAT by Rs. 2.50 so that the total benefit to citizens is at least Rs. 5. Five BJP-ruled states--Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Assam and Tripura--responded by dropping fuel prices by Rs. 2.50, but not of petrol.    All BJP-ruled states are expected to cut fuel prices by this evening, said sources. Jaitley said the finance ministry will write to the state government that as the central govt is cutting Rs 2.50 on both petrol and diesel, they also do the same.
